The monument to N. V. Gogol (sculptor — N. A. Andreev, architect — F. O. Shechtel) was opened in 1909 on Gogol Boulevard near Arbat square for the 100th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Gogol. In 1951, the monument was moved to the Museum of architecture on the territory of the don monastery. But in 1959, in connection with the 150th anniversary of the writer’s birth , the monument was again moved to the Arbat and installed on Nikitsky Boulevard in the square in front of the house where Gogol spent the last years of his life.

In 2009, to mark the 200th anniversary of the writer’s birth, The Gogol Museum was opened here.
