From the end of May to the beginning of September, an annual festival of Sand Sculptures takes place on the beach near the Peter and Paul fortress in Saint Petersburg. Several tons of sand are brought to the site of the exhibition specially for it, it is specially prepared, and then professionals take up the task – more than 20 of the best sculptors from Russia and the World.
They carve out giant exhibits on previously agreed topics, so, for example, in 2019, the theme sounded like “the lost world”. Heroes of fairy tales, mythical gods and even residents of the legendary and mysterious Atlantis became heroes.

Those who are planning a trip to the city on the Neva river in winter can visit the Ice Sculpture festival at the same place. It is called Ice Fantasy and runs from December to February. In order to prevent the ice from melting in the unpredictable climate of St. Petersburg, a tent-refrigerator is installed on the embankment of the Peter and Paul fortress. This is where the winter sculptors-ice masters-work. In the darkened space of the tent, all the sculptures are highlighted. You can also arrange a photo session with husky dogs at the festival.
