The Vorontsov Palace is located in the center of St. Petersburg, directly opposite Gostiny Dvor. This building is considered one of the most beautiful architectural monuments of the 18th century.

The Vorontsov Palace immediately attracts the attention of passers-by. The building is made in the Baroque style and abounds with interesting decorations-carvings and stucco. The interior of the Palace — more than 50 halls-also deserve close attention.

The famous architect Rastrelli built this city estate in 1749-1757 by order of Vice-Chancellor Mikhail Vorontsov. Count Vorontsov was close to the Empress Elizabeth and was a relative of the Romanovs. The count lived in the manor for only five years, and then, admitting bankruptcy, was forced to transfer the estate to the Treasury.

For some time, the Palace was used as a guest house, where many famous personalities lived. In addition, rich balls and masquerades were held within the walls of the manor.

By the decision of Paul I, the building housed the residence of the order of Malta, and the Palace itself became known as the Castle of the knights of Malta. Since 1955, the Suvorov military school has been located here.
